As Congress investigates the pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) problem, these middlemen corporations continue steering patients away from local pharmacies and more affordable prescription medicines.
PBMs also recently attempted to steer Congress away from the facts. A House Committee on Oversight and Accountability hearing with PBM chief executives this summer revealed that PBMs are misleading America. Watch the clips below to see how PBMs attempt to skirt the truth:
During the hearing, Members of Congress were forced to remind PBMs of their oath and ask for clear answers to “Yes or No” questions.
One thing is clear, PBMs are putting profits over patients.
PBMs continue to divert prescription drug savings to their own pockets instead of passing along discounts and rebates directly to patients. The result: PBMs are making record profits while patients are paying higher out-of-pocket costs. Congress must pass meaningful reforms to stop PBMs from profiting off of higher cost medications and ensure they pass discounts on to patients.
