The PBM Accountability Project Managing Director Mark Blum submitted a letter to Congressional leaders today urging them to take action to make health care more affordable for American patients by passing meaningful PBM reform legislation. The committee began working on legislation to rein in these middlemen in 2024 and must not miss an opportunity to advance legislation that prohibits the anti-patient, anti-competitive practices that have allowed PBMs to profit at the expense of patients, employers, and independent pharmacists.

Passing legislation to meaningfully reform PBMs would help lower prescription drug costs for millions of taxpayers, employers and government programs. The letter highlights key reforms that would reduce costs for American families, including breaking the link between PBM revenues and drug prices and ending the practice of spread pricing.

As Congress continues to debate the direction and value of the current health insurance system, one thing is clear: reforms are overdue. Less than a year ago, the committee united behind bipartisan, practical and cost-saving measures to address PBM practices. These reforms would lower drug costs for patients and reduce rising costs for employers. Congress must act.
